Income Tax Calculator India

Estimate your income tax liability under the old and new tax regimes.

What is Income Tax Calculator India?

An income tax calculator estimates the tax payable on your annual income by applying the applicable income tax slab rates, standard deduction and any eligible exemptions or deductions you enter. This tool compares the old and new tax regimes side by side so you can see which results in lower estimated tax, based on slab rates configured by the site administrator.

80C, 80D, HRA, home loan interest, etc.

Slab rates last updated: 2026-09-04. Always verify current slabs on the official Income Tax Department website.

India offers two income tax regimes for individuals: the new regime (lower slab rates, fewer deductions) and the old regime (higher slab rates, but with deductions such as Section 80C, HRA and standard deduction). This calculator estimates your tax liability under both, using slab rates that are kept up to date in the site settings rather than hard-coded, since tax slabs change with each Union Budget.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter your gross annual income.
  2. Enter eligible deductions if you want to see the old-regime estimate (Section 80C, 80D, HRA, home loan interest, etc.).
  3. Click Calculate Tax to see your estimated tax payable under both regimes, plus applicable cess.

How the Calculation Works

Tax is calculated by applying the current slab-wise rates (configured in admin settings) progressively to your taxable income, after subtracting the standard deduction and any deductions you enter (old regime only). A health and education cess is then added on top of the computed tax, at the rate configured in settings.

Worked Example

The exact worked example depends on the slab rates currently configured for the active assessment year — see the calculator above for a live example using this year's configured slabs, since these figures are not hard-coded here.

Who Should Use This

Salaried individuals and self-employed taxpayers who want a quick estimate of their tax liability before filing, or before deciding which regime to opt for.

Important Considerations

This is an estimate only. It does not account for every exemption, surcharge threshold, or special income category (capital gains, agricultural income, etc.). Tax slabs, rebates and cess rates are set by the Union Budget and can change every financial year — the figures used here are configured by the site administrator and should be verified against the official Income Tax Department website before filing.

Common Mistakes

Comparing regimes using last year's slab rates, or forgetting that the new regime does not allow most deductions (other than the standard deduction and NPS employer contribution), leads to inaccurate comparisons.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which tax regime should I choose?
It depends on how many deductions you claim. If your eligible deductions (80C, HRA, home loan interest, etc.) are high, the old regime may work out cheaper; otherwise the new regime's lower slab rates often result in less tax. Compare both estimates above.
Are the tax slabs on this page always current?
The slab rates are stored in an admin-editable setting rather than fixed in code, so they can be updated after each Union Budget. Always cross-check with the official Income Tax Department website before filing.
Does this calculator file my return?
No, this tool only estimates your tax liability. Filing must be done on the official income tax e-filing portal.
